Welcome to the website of DBMG

DBMG is an academic and non-profit medical-genetics unit of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University Prague. The structure of our Department corresponds to that in other major European and US genetic centers. Our major objectives are comprehensive prenatal and postnatal genetic services, both at cytogenetic and molecular genetic levels, including examination of hereditary tumors. In addition, there are specialized National Centers for the diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis, Neurogenetic Disorders and for Reproductive Genetics. All laboratory services are complemented by specialized, genetic counseling. DBMG has broad domestic and international contacts / collaboration and focused domestic and international research projects. The staff of DBMG is also engaged in the teaching of Czech and foreign medical students of 2nd School of Medicine in the fields of Biology (1st year) and Clinical & Molecular Genetics (5th year), including teaching at the University of the 3rd Age. Laboratories of the Department of Biology and Medical Genetics have achieved official laboratory accreditation according to CSN EN ISO 15189:2007 „Medical laboratories - Particular requirements for quality and competence“. The Certificate of Accreditation was issued by the Czech Accrediation Institute, Public Service Company on May 15; 2008 (www.cai.cz). Scope of accreditation: Molecular-genetic examination including DNA sequencing methods, MLPA, capillary system-based fragment analyses and restriction enzyme digestion, cytogenetic karyotyping, including typing of chromosomal aberrations by FISH, sampling of blood and/or of skin biopsies to the extent specified in the Appendix to Certificate of Accreditation.
